Local Work

The local work of the Federation tends to the specific needs of our local Jewish community. The Federation serves as a center for Jewish resources for all stages and areas of life. This can most easily be used through our Community Resources page.

Education
Federation sponsors the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School, a unique, pluralistic, informal education program that brings adults of all backgrounds together to study Jewish text and connect that learning to everyday life. To participate in the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School, contact Ellen Sager at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Mini Bus
Federation manages and maintains our community’s minibus. This 14 passenger minibus was a gift to the community from the Old Oaks Country Club of Westchester, NY. It is used for Federation programs and has been made available to Congregation B’nai Israel, Beth Shalom Synagogue, and BaRFTY for their use.

Jewish Film Festival
Federation provides underwriting and administrative support for the Baton Rouge Jewish Film Festival.

Holocaust & Tolerance Education Program
In partnership with The Advocate, the Federation provides funding for teacher and student education on the Holocaust and the need for tolerance. This program also sponsors the annual Community Holocaust Memorial Service and the Holocaust Memorial Essay Contest.

Camp Kol Bo-Reznikoff Day Camp
Camp Kol Bo is a community sponsored two week-long Jewish day camp for children ages 4-7 in Baton Rouge where children learn about Judaism and make memories that last a lifetime.

Hillel Consortium
The Jewish Federation of Greater Baton Rouge provides funding for programming and a part-time coordinator to encourage and support Jewish Life on the LSU campus. Federation provides increased funding to LSU Hillel to help support the incredible renaissance of Jewish Life that is taking place there.

B'nai Israel and Beth Shalom Religious School
